The Washington, DC Flight Restricted Zone

Going to EAA Airventure this year?   Stop in for our EAA Forum presentation and learn how to use the 3 close-in General Aviation airports in the Washington, DC area safely and with confidence.

Access to this airspace is easier than you might thing, requiring only a background check and a short (1 hour+) training session.    This is a rare opportunity to complete the process in one session - or, just sit in and learn.  This is also a great refresher if you already hold approval for the airspace and just want to get up to speed on the latest changes.

Registration is highly recommended for the seminar and required for the on-site background check.  To download the registration form and detailed instructions, please click HERE.

The training session will be in Forum 1, 8:30-9:45.  Fingerprinting for the background check will be in Forum 6 (other end of the same row), 10:00-11:15.  We may be able to take fingerprints during the training as well, if needed.

For questions, click HERE to send email or call Stan Fetter (presenter) at 301-234-0065.

To apply for a PIN during this session, please bring copies of:

  1. Your FAA Pilot or Student Pilot Certificate (front only needed)

  2. A government-issued photo ID

  3. Your FAA medical or Basic Medical certificate (not required for Sport Pilot applicants)

  4. Your completion certificate for Washington Special Flight Rules Area  training.             (If you’ve not done that, it is available here.)

  5. If you’d like, you can also download the required application forms HERE.   Just bring them along; you’ll complete them at the seminar.  They’ll also be available there.

These sessions are made possible by the generous support of  Washington Executive Airport/Hyde Field & Fetter Aviation Co (W32), GT Aviation(VKX), Chesapeake Sport Pilot (W29) and AOPA, along with a LOT of help from the MD3 Program Office at the Transportation Security Administration.
